What kept me here for 30 years

Russ Berg’s driving career started before the CDL license existed, in the 1970s. He’s crisscrossed the country many times and in his career’s first ten years worked at for long list of trucking companies. But it wasn’t until a friend of his bragged on how much he liked Anderson Trucking Service (ATS), that Berg says he found his home.

“I do very well at Anderson. The pay is better and you don’t have to run as many long miles.”

“I drove a dump truck in high school and realized early in life how much I enjoy driving and going places. The different people you meet out on the road are always interesting and I really like the traveling part of it,” Berg explains, noting that, as much as he likes driving, he didn’t fully enjoy his first driving jobs. “I pulled a refer first, then a grain trailer, then back to a refer. I didn’t like that I was always having to unload refer freight, and I didn’t like drop and hook. I had a few friends who had gone to ATS and they told me it was a good company and the money here was better, so I came over and joined the company in 1983.”

Russ BergNearly 31 years later, this Missouri-based owner operator is still here, pulling flatbed specialized loads and soon to mark his three millionth safe mile. “I do very well at Anderson. The pay is better and you don’t have to run as many long miles. I’ve bought and paid for 6 trucks with what I make here. They’ve always got freight to haul and they’ve always been helpful to me,” he says. “That’s what has kept me here for 30 years.”

“I started my career working for Harold Anderson, continued on when his son Rollie took over, and now I’m seeing the third generation of Andersons at work. It’s a good family and a good company to work for. I’ve done well here and had an enjoyable life. I’m satisfied.”
