Chad Bailey of Anderson Trucking Service has discovered a formula for achieving huge success in the trucking profession. He’s making huge pay, carrying huge loads.

A lease operator with Anderson for seven years, Bailey has been driving for approximately 15 years. He came to Anderson after shopping around for a company with a lease purchase program that worked best for him. “This was the only one that’s ever really worked out for me.”

Bailey is successful due to the programs Anderson offers their lease operators. He emphasized, “They’ve got an excellent fuel surcharge plan; we get fleet price. … They have a very good maintenance program. They help you along, discounts on tires and things like that.

He added about Anderson’s lease purchase program, “Yeah, I think it’s one that you can definitely succeed at. They don’t make it unreasonable. Truck payments are reasonable. … I’m actually on my third lease/purchase.”

Bailey explained his formula for success in driving heavy haul. “Well, it’s not so much the miles; it’s the per mile pay because I’m a heavy haul, so I move the bigger loads. So I don’t get a lot of miles.” Driving heavy haul loads, Bailey usually pulls a 13-axle trailer, normally weighing 250,000 pounds instead of 80,000 pounds.

Engaged with an upcoming summer wedding, home time is key for Bailey. “The most important thing is, I guess I would say the home time, family. To have a good job where I know I’m taken care of and appreciated.” He explained, “They usually give you a day for every week out. … It’s a little different than the regular driving industry.”

His formula of hauling huge loads for huge pay has been so successful, Bailey plans to retire with Anderson. “I feel they’re an excellent company and hope to retire here and they’re very friendly, family oriented. You can walk right into the owner’s office and say hi. … If you’ve got a problem they help you work through it. You know, they work with you and get you through all the tough economic times now. They work with you to help you get through problems.”

For those interested in a driving career, Bailey is encouraging. “I think it’s a good profession; it’s a reputable profession. I think it’s a good job, a good career to pursue if you’re interested in travel and meeting people and seeing interesting things.”
